The Guardians of the Galaxy may have some skills at protecting

the universe from bad guys, but the Hubble Space Telescope also

has some amazing superpowers when it comes to observing

galaxies. A galaxy is an enormous collection of billions

or trillions of stars and other matter that is gravitationally

held together. Most of the individual stars you see with

the naked eye are in our own galaxy, the Milky Way, but if

you use a telescope like Hubble that can see fainter objects,

you can spot other galaxies in all sorts of configurations. For

Hubble's 27th birthday this April, we released this new

image of two spiral galaxies that are about 55 million

light-years away. The galaxy on the right is viewed almost

face-on at a slight angle, and the galaxy on the left is viewed

edge on. They're very pretty, but it would be too easy to

guard just two galaxies. Check out this brand new Frontier

Fields image showing thousands of galaxies using two combined

superpowers - Hubble's incredible optics above Earth's

atmosphere, and a quirk of nature called gravitational

lensing. The enormous mass of a cluster of galaxies is warping

space in a way that acts as a lens that magnifies, brightens,

and distorts the light from galaxies behind it. The galaxies

in cluster Abell 370 are the bright yellowish white smudges,

and they're about 4 billion light-years away. Most of the

other smudges are background galaxies being gravitationally

lensed by the galaxy cluster, and some of them you can see are

incredibly distorted, like this dragon-shaped feature, which

seems like a monster straight out of a comic book but is

actually a single spiral galaxy appearing in multiple locations

next to each other in an arc. One of the farthest galaxies in

this image is this little red dot, which is over 13 billion

light-years away, and it appears in multiple locations from the

distortion of the gravitational lens. We're seeing this galaxy

as it appeared only 600 million years after the Big Bang. The

Hubble Space Telescope is helping keep watch over many,

many galaxies, so if we spot any trouble going down in a far

corner of the universe, we'll be sure to let Star-Lord and his

team know.

How I film and edit my videos | Riley J. Dennis - Duration: 5:14.

Hey everybody!

So today I wanna go over the whole technical process of how I make my videos, from the

planning process to filming to editing to uploading.

Hopefully, if you have a small YouTube channel or are thinking about starting one, this can

give you a look into one way that you can make videos.

I say one way because I have no idea if my process is the best process or the worst process

or, like, an okay process.

I really don't know how a lot of other YouTubers make their videos.

I basically figured this all out as I went along; I googled things and watched other

people's videos about their equipment and editing process.

So now that I have a pretty good rhythm with what I'm doing, I thought I could contribute

my part to that.

But don't take this is as The Way To YouTube.

I don't know what I'm doing on here.

Does any YouTuber really know what they're doing on here?

Anyway, this video is actually sponsored by SkillShare.

Skillshare is an online learning community for creators with more than 15,000 classes

in design, photo, and more.

Everyone can take a class, try a project, or even teach a class themselves.

Premium membership begins at about $10 a month for unlimited access.

By clicking the link in the description and using the promo code RILEYDENNIS, you can

get a 2-month free trial.

I really like what SkillShare is offering and it's the kind of thing I would've

found really useful a couple years ago when I was getting started on YouTube.

So, making a YouTube video -- I usually start out by writing a script.

Sometimes I film unscripted videos, but then I tend to ramble and say "um" alot, and

I usually don't like those videos as much.

I'm much more of a scripted vlog kind of person.

Then, once I have my script or at least a general idea of what I want to talk about,

I sit down in front of my camera.

So let's talk about equipment.

When I got started on YouTube, I was filming with my phone and using a small lapel mic

that I got from Amazon that plugged into the headphone jack.

I would balance my phone on a bunch of books and stand as far away as I could while my

mic was attached to the phone.

It was a pretty bad setup.

So once I had been doing YouTube for a few months and decided that it was something I really

liked and wanted to continue doing, I bought a Canon T5i off Ebay for like $500 or something.

I know that ain't cheap, and I know it's expensive to YouTube, and I'm sorry.

Most phones are good enough that people won't even know you're filming on a phone, but I

wanted to up my quality, and I could afford it at the time, so I got a DSLR.

Then, last summer, I was a part of the YouTube NextUp program, and they gave us all $2,500

to get new equipment.

So I sold my old T5i and got a Canon 80D, which cost just over $1,000.

I also got a new Sigma 18-35mm lens, and I got a Zoom H1 mic.

I still use all this stuff today.

For my lights, I actually have two box lights and one ring light.

I've seen other people get good results with just one or the other but personally

I always think my lighting looks off if I don't use the box lights and the ring light

at the same time.

I also have a tripod, a ring light stand, a mic stand, and a small Parrot teleprompter.

All of that stuff will be linked in the description in case you want to see any of it.

Most of it I got from B&H because that's where YouTube gave us all a gift card to,

but I also bought a couple of things on Amazon.

You definitely don't need all of that stuff, though.

My YouTube world didn't change significantly after I got all of it, but I am very lucky

and privileged to have gotten that money from YouTube.

The best part is mostly that I can film at night.

Because I used to always film facing a window for good lighting during the day, but I'm

actually much more of a night person -- so being able to turn on my studio lights at

1am and film a video is actually really convenient for me.

The teleprompter also has been a huge help.

I used to memorize one line at a time and say it into the camera like 50 times to make

sure I had a good take.

That took forever.

I would spend about an hour filming a 4-minute video.

Now, with this little $100 teleprompter that screws onto the front of my lens, I can film

a video in like 20 minutes.

It's magical.

I just use my old smartphone with a teleprompter app and a little Bluetooth remote control

to pause and rewind the text when I need to.

That's probably the best thing I've done for my channel was get a teleprompter.

So, once the video is filmed, then it's time to edit.

I use Adobe Premiere Pro for all my videos and occasionally After Effects if I want to

add fancy graphics.

Like, you know my endscreen that plays at the end of every video?

I made that in After Effects.

But to show you how I edit, I thought I could just edit a chunk of this video for you.

I usually get started by going in color correcting my footage, so I just make an adjustment layer

and I can make all the changes on there so that it affects all the footage below it.

I usually boost the shadows and just kinda eyeball it for whatever I think looks good.

Then, if I remembered to pose for a thumbnail, I go in and get some screencaps of the different

poses that I took for the thumbnail.

After that, I start chopping up all the bits where I actually said anything because there's

a lot of silence in between it and times when I misspoke.

And once I have all of that cut up, I just delete all the space in between it, and then

I start stacking them on top of each other with a little bit of overlap in between them

so that there's like never a moment where I'm not talking because if you ever have,

like, a small silence in a vlog in between jumpcuts, it sounds really awkward.

So I just try to have really close jumpcuts, and so I listen to them over and over again

to make sure that they're okay.

So that's how I edit.

Exporting then takes like 30 minutes to an hour depending on the length of my video,

and thanks to my not-so-fast internet, videos usually take over an hour to upload.

Then I add the title, description, tags, put it in the appropriate playlist, add the clickable

endscreen things, and then add the captions.

If it was a scripted video, I just copy-paste the script and then make sure all the captions

are easily readable.

They usually aren't.

YouTube has this habit of fitting like most of a sentence into one section and then just

leaving the last word in its own section afterwards.

It's really annoying.

So eventually I clean all of those up, and then schedule the video.

If it's an unscripted video, I usually spend like 45 minutes to an hour and half just transcribing

the video in YouTube's captioning system.

And that is my process.

I hope that was helpful to you in some way.

Remember that this is just one example of how you can film and edit your videos.

If you're a YouTuber, I'd love to hear about your process because I really don't

know what other YouTubers do.

And remember to use the link in the description to get a 2-month free trial over at SkillShare

using the code RILEYDENNIS.

After going through a few of their tutorials, you could be much better than me at video editing.

Alright, well thank you so much for watching.

I love you all, and I'll see you next time.

Islamic Stories | Prophet Shuhaib (AS) | Prophet Stories for Kids | Islamic Kids Videos.. - Duration: 11:26.

Hmm.. All the shows on TV are so boring!

I wonder why Papa is so late today!

Boring! Boring! No.. Boring!!

AssalamuAlaikukum

WalaikumAssalam Baba!

Where were you?

Do you know how long I had been waiting for you?

I'm sorry my son..

I had so much work at the office today!

That's why I am late.

Hmm.. That's alright!

What were you doing my dear?

I was watching TV Baba!

What were you watching on TV?

Nothing particularly!! All the shows were boring on TV

Inshallah, what if I tell you the story of another prophet today!!

That would be amazing!!! Thank you so much baba!

Alright, today I will tell you the story of Prophet Shuaib (as)!

Who was he baba?

Many elderly scholars believe that Shuaib (AS) was the elderly man

who offered safety to Musa (as). Prophet Musa (as) had married

the daughter of Prophet Shuaib (as) before he fled to Egypt.

There are no authentic sources confirming or denying this.

However, Quran tells us that the Prophet was from the people of Madyan,

and it was there that Prophet Musa (as) found refuge.

Mashallah! That sounds so interesting! Please tell me the story.

Alright, now listen carefully

Bismillah!

The story of Prophet Shuaib (as)

The people of Madyan were Arabs who lived in the country of Ma'an,

part of which is known today as greater Syria.

They were a bunch of greedy people who refused to believe in Allah (swt),

and they led a wicked life.

The people as a whole were thieves and robbers, deceiving one another.

They also looted the travelers who were passing through their townships.

The people of Madyan were mostly traders. They gave short measure while selling goods

praised their goods beyond their worth, and hide their defects.

They lied to their customers thereby cheating them.

And instead of worshipping Allah (swt) the true god, they worshipped a tree!!

That was when God send prophet Shuaib to call his people to worship Allah (swt)alone

Hazrat Shuaib (as) preached to them, begging them to be mindful

of Allah's favors, and warning them the consequences of their evil ways.

But the people mocked at him and said:

You want us to worship the God who you worship?

How can you expect us to leave the religion of our forefathers?

You want us to be fair while trading?

You want us to deal honestly and suffer our losses?

When the prophet said yes,

"Never" replied the people. We will never listen to you!

We would have stoned you, if you were not old and without children" warned the people

But the prophet ignored their warning and continued to preach to the people.

He told the people not to hate the truth and reject God's call.

He reminded them of the punishment God sent to Lut (as) people.

The people of Madyan were the first to impose fees and tolls on the people

who passed through their territory.

The prophet preached to them and tried his best to convince them to lead

an honest life.

But the people insisted on leading a life by robbing and cheating other

people despite the prophets warnings.

The prophet did not lose hope even then!

He preached to them during the day, and the night!

He reminded them that he was trying do what is best for them,

and not for his own personal gain.

By now, the disbelievers got really angry.

They forcefully took the belongings of the prophet and his followers!

The people of Madyan then threw them out of the city.

And they then challenged him to bring the punishment upon them!

The prophet had by now lost all his hope on the people,

so he turned to his Lord for help. And His request was answered very soon!

And finally the day of the punishment arrived!

God made the sun unbearably hot and scorching for the people of Madyan.

The hot weather lasted for no less than seven days!

The people of Madyan tried to cool themselves with water,

but that didn't help at all..

The people suffered terribly for seven days!!

The wells dried up, and the plants fell to the ground

Then God send a huge dark and gloomy cloud to the city!

"Look, its about to rain" said the people when they saw the cloud.

The people thought that the cloud would bring them rain, and bring down the heat.

So they ran out in joy hoping the clouds would bring them the rain!

Little did they know that this was Allah's punishment for them!

All the disbelievers had by now gathered under the cloud!

Then suddenly, from the clouds came thunderbolts and fire!!

The huge thunderbolts caused the ground to shake, and people fell one by one.

The flames of fire then burned everyone to ashes!

When the prophet returned to the city next day, he saw that no one was alive in Madyan

Like in Thamud, the people lay dead on the ground,

and all the disbelievers were destroyed.

Madyan's wealth didn't save them from Allah's punishment. Seeing the destruction,

Shuaib (as) said that he didn't feel sorry for them since they were fighting against

Allah, and he had tried to warn them many times.

Mashallah! It was such a wonderful story!

Hmm.. Prophet Shuaib (as) went on to live for many more years!

Did you know that it he who gave food and shelter to Prophet Musa (as),

when had escaped from Egypt?

Huh? I didn't know that! Please tell me Baba

Ha haa.. Alright

Prophet Moosa (as) had escaped from Egypt and away from the eyes of his people.

He travelled for many days in the desert, and he finally reached Madyan.

The prophet was very thirsty, so he went near a well to drink water from it.

But when he arrived near the well, he saw a crowd of people making their animals

drink water from the well.

He saw two women standing aside, waiting for their turn.

"Why are you standing over here?" he asked them.

"We cannot give water to our animals till the shepherds feed their cattle"

said one of them.

"Our father is a very old man, and he is waiting for us to get him the water"

said the other.

On hearing this, the prophet went to the well, and took the bucket from the shepherds

Everyone moved aside and made way for the prophet.

He then drew water from the well, and gave it to the sisters.

The prophet then went and sat under a tree.

Hardly a few moments had lapsed when one of the sisters who had gone to their house,

returned, and said to the prophet

"My father has called you to reward you for the trouble you took for us" she told him.

The prophet agreed and went with her.

Prophet Musa (as) met Prophet Shuaib (as) and told him his story.

"You have gained freedom from your oppressors" said Prophet Shuaib (as).

That's when one of his daughter suggested that they should employ him because

he was strong and trustworthy

"You have witnessed his strength at the well" said the prophet.

"But how do you know of his trustworthiness?" he asked

The daughter replied "When he started coming towards the house, he asked us to

walk behind him, and told us that he comes from a household where the males do not

look at the females"

Prophet Shuaib (as) was very happy with him and he said

"It is my desire that I get you married to one of my daughters.

But on the condition that you will tend my cattle for eight years!.

Prophet Musa (as) accepted the offer and married Safura.

He then took care of the cattle for eight long years as he had promised!!

Mashallah, that was such a great story

I'm glad you liked it my dear. Now shall I ask you a few questions from the story

I'm ready!!

Ha haa.. Alright, now here is the first question.

What were the sins that the people of Madyan committed?

Hmm.. First was they cheated with the scales.

Am I right Baba?

Yes.. go on.. what were their other sins?

Worshipping false gods and and.. robbery!

Ha ha haa.. That's very good amir.

Now tell me how God punished the people of Madyan?

God first send a scorching heat that lasted for seven long days!

The wells dried up, and plants died. Then on the seventh day,

he send a huge cloud that showered rain of fire! This killed all the people of Madyan.

Mashallah, That's correct my son! That's all for today,

I will tell you the story of another prophet tomorrow.

Good night amir..

Good night Baba!

The best arguments - Duration: 3:34.

Hi everybody.

Hey it's Craig Freshley here.

I just cut the lawn for the first time this spring and while I was cutting the lawn I

was thinking about a meeting yesterday.

We were talking about politics.

We were talking about how to have hard conversations with people of different political parties.

And somebody said, "The best arguments I've ever had are the ones where we both come away

with seeing things in new ways."

I started thinking about that; thinking back on arguments I had with fellow students back

in college as a philosophy major, thinking about arguments I've had over countless dinner

tables and on countless walks.

And the best arguments I've ever had are the ones where we each came away with a new perspective

on things!

This is very different than: "The best arguments I've ever had are the ones that I won."

There is this idea that we go into an argument with the objective of winning.

But why?

Well it's probably about ego and pride.

I want to give myself a sense of satisfaction of being better than you.

But when I look back on the arguments that I've had, that's not what I really cherish.

And what's this about winning an argument anyway?

How do you know that you've won?

Well in a formal argument -- we call that a debate -- there's a way to tell who wins

and who loses.

There is a proposition.

One side defends the proposition.

Another side opposes the proposition.

And at the end of the debate the audience or a set of judges vote and a winner is declared.

But what's that about?

It's about whoever is better at supporting or opposing the proposition, the initial idea.

You win the argument if you're better than the other guy at citing evidence, at clever

dialogue, at rational thinking, of backing up the initial thought.

It doesn't necessarily mean that new thoughts are generated or created.

That's the best argument: when new knowledge is created.

So I'm thinking that if I want to win an argument I'm going to focus on my talk.

But if I want to come away from an argument seeing things in new ways, I'm going to focus

on the listening.

I'm going to draw out new knowledge from the other person and try to create new ideas rather

than simply blindly defending my initial idea.

Thanks for listening everybody.
