What's up Vagabuddies?
Welcome back to the channel.
I am Alex. I'm Marko,
and we are the Vagabrothers.
This is a new video segment,
something we've never done before,
but we're excited to talk about:
our monthly favorites.
Basically, we had this idea because we
travel the world; we have a lot of
opportunities to encounter
cool music, cool souvenirs,
cool books, whatever, and we
don't share all that with you. It's hard
to fit that into a vlog. So once a month
we'd like to just take some time to
share some cool things we've discovered
with you that will give you a bit of
background and context to the travel vlogs
that we're publishing. The format is
probably going to change monthly
depending on what cool things we
encounter, but this month we have some
pretty awesome stuff to share with you.
We've just filmed a vlog series
in Jamaica..
A lot of things that we're going to
talk about this week are Jamaican in
nature or related to that in some way.
The series goes live next week.
Hopefully, this will give you a little taste
of what's to come.
But first and foremost, our favorite
destination of the month is Jamaica.
There're so many things that we loved
about the island. We had been there once
before, last year - but this time around we
really got to dive very deep into the
beautiful island of Jamaica, and we're
not going to get too far into it because
we want to save some secrets for you
guys for the vlog series. But honestly,
one of the most culturally fascinating
and vibrant islands
I think we've ever been to. Jamaica is
unique because it is kind of the culture
maker of the Caribbean. There's a lot...
every island in the Caribbean has something
unique, but Jamaica is undoubtedly one of
the most influential.
They have their own music;
they have their own religion;
they have their own food.
They've got a lot of things that are unique
and autonomous to Jamaica.
If you're looking for a place
that's warm, affordable, and culturally
fascinating, Jamaica is
our choice of the month.
Next up is travel app of the month:
this is Google Translate.
A lot of you have had
that for a while and so have , but what's
changed recently is that Google has upped
it's artificial intelligence or A.I. game,
and they've applied that to Google Translate,
which essentially means that
machine learning is happening .
The translations are getting far more
accurate, far more fast, and its app has gone
up to the next level. One of the features
that made us choose Google Translate as
our favorite app this month is that it
actually allows you to, in real time,
translate with your phone. You can
pull out your phone, open the camera, and
put the camera right over the text that
you want to translate, and it
instantaneously translates it.
It's not 100 % accurate,
but even having something that's 90%
accurate when you don't speak the
language is a huge benefit. Great for
menus; great for figuring out how to use
washing machines. When we go to Korea
this month, we'll tell you it's going to come
in really handy. A lot of you have volunteered
to contribute captions and translations
to this channel. Thank you all to
the Vagabrothers translation team. I would
say right now that it's even easier than
before because Google Translate is
automatically translating right now, and
all you do is adjust the captions. There's
link in the info box, if you guys want to
contribute to that as well. Honestly, we
appreciate each and every one of you
guys. Thank you so much. Vagabrother's
translation team: big shout-out.
Next up: travel tech.
Our favorite piece of travel
technology this month is this bag called
the Loc Tote. It looks pretty simple
and honestly it is very simple. That's
one of the beautiful things about it, but
what it is is a tote bag that, like any
tote bag, pulls taut. You can put stuff in there.
There's a couple of little zippers and
stuff on the inside, but the best part
about it is: if you're going to the beach
for example, you can pull this taut,
flip it over,
lock it, and you can also lock it to
something. For example, if you're
traveling for spring break, and you want
to go swimming on the beach but you
can't leave your bag with your
flip-flops and your valuables in it, you
can just pull the LocTote out, lock it
up, lock it to a pole or something like
that, and nobody is going to be able to
get your stuff.
It's knife- proof; that's the main thing, which I think
is amazing. That's what makes this
different than other draw- string bags.
Someone can literally put a
knife to it. They cannot open up. If you lock
that to a fence, it's solid. Anything that is
not movable, you can lock the LocTote to,
and thieves are going to be foiled by it.
So thieves, be gone!
Next up: favorite souvenir of the month:
Blue Mountain coffee from Jamaica.
A little teaser of what's to come....
we went to the Blue Mountains of Jamaica
where the make the most rare and
expensive coffee in the world. There're are
only 5 estates that are able to produce this
coffee
under this denomination, and so we went
to the Old Tavern Coffee Estate, and
we brought back some with us.
It's really mild, beautifully balanced,
and it's just a great souvenir to bring
a little bit of Jamaica back home.
We emptied his supply, seriously.
They harvest it organically, and then it's
roasted in his house and just taking
this and going....{sniff} it's honestly.....
It's good. It's close to orgasmic.
Let's just put it like that.
Also cool, he only sells
directly to consumers. We'll leave the
link below of his website, and you can
try to get some yourself.
Good luck. One of the things that we
really wanted to incorporate into this
segment, into this vertical, if you will
is favorite humans. There are so many
unique individuals out there that are
creating awesome stuff, and we would like
to help highlight people who are doing
cool things. So we are having a favorite
human section. And this month our
favorite human is a well-groomed man
named Josh Elkin.
We met Josh through my
girlfriend, Carrie. Her great friend
Eileen is dating Josh. Josh is originally
from Montreal in Quebec, Canada, and
he has been creating the most amazing
food porn on the internet.
Honestly, Josh is a mastermind when it
comes to the kitchen and recently, he
and Carrie created a Valentine's Day
surprise in which they cooked me one of
the most delicious Beef Wellington's,
complete with a little puff pastry heart
on top. I'm kind of man-crushing
on Josh right now, but honestly
you guys....you? We.
We are man-crushing on Josh. We've got a
bromance going on with this guy. We're going
to do some more videos with Josh soon.
He's a supercool guy.
You should go check him out.
Subscribe if not already. If you don't
know Josh by name, you might recognize
his face from Epic Meal Time.
He was one of the masterminds of that.
A lot of that show was shot in his kitchen,
and he's a food stylist. He has got
tons of experience, but he's recently
branched out and started own channel.
We should put a disclaimer: the food that
you're going to see on there will make
you want to ditch whatever diet you're on
and just binge eat.
Thank you for that Josh.
Bacon, bacon, bacon, bacon.
Again because we went to Jamaica this month,
we're going to be highlighting Jamaican music.
Personally, I've gotten really into Ska,
which is kind of proto-reggae, the music that
came before reggae, like if Bob Marley
were Led Zeppelin, this would be like
Chuck Berry.
It's early 1960s, and
the Toots and Maytals is my favorite
sort of single band of this genre.
You might not know them by name,
but you might know songs like...[singing]
54 46 was my number,
was my number now, right now.
Somebody else has that number.
One more time, 54.
One more time..Fine, fine, fine.
Ska is cool.
I do like Ska, but I do think that
as a genre, there is a lot more
diversity in reggae music, starting at
roots reggae and all the way through to
the modern kind of dance hall, but the
song I have been jamming for all month
is from an artist named Pressure.
It's called Love and Affection. [singing]
Let me give you my love and affection.
You've got my attention.
Wanton intention.
Something like that.
We've made a Jamaican playlist, which
is on Spotify, so we'll link that down in
the description, as well. If you want to
hear some of the music, some of the tunes that
we've been jamming out to this month,
those are all there for you. Our favorite
clothing item for the month is made by a
company called Tobacco Motorwear.
As you may or may not know,
if you follow us on Instagram,
you probably do,
we are getting really into
motorcycling and me especially,
wanting to do long distance moto-vlogs.
We've spoken with a company
called Tobacco Motowear who have
given us some incredible jeans.
These are denim, but they're
lined with Kevlar.
In case the unwanted happens and you do
get into a spill, you are covered.
These things will last for a very long time,
and they are extremely comfortable.
Shout-out to Tobacco Motorwear.
Thank you. I've been riding in these things
and absolutely love them.
I've got a pair in denim, and the great
thing about them is they look like
normal jeans. You can you can wear them
around all day, and you'll forget that you're
wearing protective motorcycle gear.
That means that we can go on
trips, long distances without wearing
a one-piece. We can still look cool,
which is important these days.
Not only is it lined with
Kevlar, the jeans are made with
selvedge denim,
which is an old-school weaving
technique, and they look great,
highly functional, comfortable and protective.
Next up: book of the month.
I got the Pocket Atlas of Remote Islands.
This book is simply beautiful.
It has a compendium of
maybe a couple dozen islands
from around the world,
all of which are really obscure.
It's not going to be the islands
you've heard of; it's the island you've never
heard of, and that is the essence
of the book.
What I really liked about it is that you
can just pop it open,
flip to any page, and have a quick read
on a place that you never knew existed
with interesting history that you would
never have learned.
Perfect for the bathroom.
Single sitting reads.
This book is relevant because
we have an upcoming
video in which we go to an island we
never thought we would visit, and you
guys have to guess where we are
by us giving you clues along the way.
So stay tuned for that.
And lastly, we want to be
sharing cool programs that we found,
whether it's on Netflix or HBO
or whatever.
This month's favorite is on
Netflix, and it's called Slow TV.
Brother, take it away.
We heard about Slow TV at the
Live the Adventure summit.
There was a woman we met,
I'm sorry I forget your name, but
she mentioned that she shows this
to her kids, and it's literally videos of a
train in Norway, just traveling 10 hours.
There's a boat......wait, wait, stop.
A train in Norway traveling for 10 hours.
It's just the front view of a train, and
they have the same thing for a boat going through
canal system; they have fly fishing; they
have weaving and some other ones,
but the train one is amazing.
It's great because its just ambient
video. You put it on
the background, and it's great for if
you're working. You just hear the sound
of the train, and it's very relaxing.
It's simple and mesmerizing.
We had a little gathering
at our house a couple of days ago,
and we had the slow TV on in
the background. It was a total hit.
We highly recommend you go check it out.
Just make sure that you have ten
hours of relatively free time.
That is our first monthly favorite.
Hopefully, you guys enjoy some
of our picks. Let us know if you have
anything you'd like to add to the list
by dropping a comment down there. If you
enjoyed the video give it a thumbs -up
and share it with your friends.

And if you are subscribed,
