Waching daily Mar 4 2017

why do you script your videos? why don't

you script your videos?

what is your process? what is your

pre-production? if you are youtuber, i

would like to know. if you're not,

can you tell...if your not being told

whether or not something is scripted? can

you feel

what's going on? I thought I would make

a video talking about this really

quickly for vedimm, i wasn't going to

originally film anything today and I

filmed like probably four different ideas.

And the point that i'm now coming to, or

the idea, I'm now coming to is: this video

isn't even planned. So most of my videos

are planned and I like have a list of

things that I want to do. And then I'll

practice them or I'll like, talk through

them to myself. Um.

Which, i'll be honest, my husband kinda

gets creeped out when he hears me

talking to myself sometimes, at home.

It's ok Jim, I'm just practicing a video

idea i have. And then i'll do that enough

to really sort of get, I guess, the theme

of it ready. And my point. And then

I'll film it. But because it's not

actually scripted, it feels more natural

to me. It feels more real, it feels more

comfortable, i guess you could say. It

makes editing a nightmare but I love

editing so maybe i do it on purpose. So i

have like a more ex-plor-itory...that's not a

word.

Um! I have more of an

adventure, I explore more in editing. I can...

i can sort of figure things out and tell

the story. Rather than if I had it all

scripted. It would, it would be really

simple, it would be really

straightforward, um, and not as fun.

Maybe that's why I don't script my videos.

That may be one reason, but another

reason too is when I do script my videos...

i'll have it all written down. And I'm

not really good at memorizing things in

that short amount of time, especially if it's like,

I come up with the video idea and i

film myself two days later. It's

like, I'm not gonna have it memorized. So

every few lines i have to, like, look down

and that means another cut. Which, nothing

against videos with a ton of jump cuts. I

just feel that the more jump cuts you

have the more disjointed it kind of

feels. It doesn't really flow as well, unless you like...

have some... I mean there's like ways of editing to

make it flow a little better and I've

used them sometimes. Like, you know,

extending the video of like one clip a

little longer where the audio of the

second clip starts first. I've done that

little bit. It's, you know, a trick. Or like vice

versa. But I don't know, I really love

those moments where I'm having a

thought, i'm explaining something, and I

just don't need to edit it. It just kind

of flows really well. And usually what

I'll do is I'll edit out pauses, or you

know, if I'm like sitting there going: Ummm

And then of course I have to edit when my camera just stops.

Sometimes it just stops recording. I

was about to say I'm not going to put

any cuts in this video but i have to

because my camera stopped recording. So

things like that, things like if I say

something in a weird way or get a

different thought, then i'll stop and I'll like

think through it. And then i'll say it again.

So I'll of course have to make a cut there. Um, and yeah,

you can use jump cuts totally for

creative reasons. I just feel like, I don't know,

like... and this has like sort of

become my style of video making and I'm

wondering if maybe I should go back to

trying to script things. I feel like my

videos might have more well-thought-out

substance, you know. They're not just me

spouting, like, my opinions on, you know,

books and television. And maybe like, I

could teach you something.

i mean i'm not, i'm not a teacher by

profession but...you know, there's certain

things that like I feel differently

about *than the other YouTube

channels that I follow with certain things.

And I'm kind of not the type person to be

like super opinionated and like: 'This...

this is why you're wrong!' But I don't know,

lately that's changed.

'Cause lately, you know, we've kind of become

more of an outspoken culture of people

who care about the environment and the

planet and other people. And don't know,

like i said, this video isn't pre-

planned. Let alone being scripted. This is

the easiest type of video to make and

also the hardest, because i'm always

second-guessing everything. Not

everything I'm saying, but like...like:

'Should edit this? Should I restart this?'

I've re-started this like five times. But no, this

is the one I'm gonna keep. This is what

i'm going to upload. And i have a video

idea for tomorrow, which I probably

will script a little. I'll script it a little.

Maybe. Not entirely, but there's like a

premeditated plan for uh, this YouTube

project. Oh spoilers! YouTube project! Jenny

can't stop making YouTube projects! 'Cause

she just can't stop. I can't stop!

Uh yeah. Okay well, thank you for watching. If

you'd like to support me I do have a

Patreon account. I'm going to be

revamping some of the awesome super cool

perks.

So there's even some great stuff at the

$1 a month level. And if you want

to give me a one-time donation, I do have

a paypal as well.

Links are in the doobly-doo! Thank you so

much for your support! I'll see you

tomorrow. Meow.
