desperately desire. a mood board could
be just what you need to get your brand
headed in the right direction.

going to be talking all about what mood
boards are, why you need one, and how to
create a mood board for your brand. (intro music)
hey there! I'm Holly Meyer, the brand
designer and creative director behind
Holly Meyer Design. On this channel I
share brand tips and tutorials that
empower online business owners like yourself
to purposely define, design and develop
their brand so they can captivate
their dream audience and stand out
in their industry. first things first, what
exactly is a mood board? a mood board is
an arrangement of images, text, colors and
other visual elements that reflect a
particular style or concept. a mood board
enables you to have a clear vision in
mind as you work on your brand or any
other sort of creative project. mood boards
are perfect if you're working with a
team member or contracting work from
someone like a designer because the mood
board will give everyone a clear
understanding of your brand 's visual style
and tone. as they say, a picture is worth
a thousand words! a lot of times I find
that my brand design clients have
difficulty verbalizing their brand's
aesthetic. and mood boards enable them
to communicate their brand style and
tone without saying a word.
one of the quickest and easiest ways to
create a mood board is on Pinterest so i'm
going to show you how you can create
your own a mood board on Pinterest. step
one, we're going to create a secret board
on Pinterest. to do this, navigate to your
Pinterest profile, click create board and
enter a name for your board. switch the
secret
toggle on, then click create. secret boards
will be beneficial for you if
your project isn't
ready to be seen by the public quite yet.
and a secret board is also beneficial
for your Pinterest followers because
they won't be bothered or distracted by
the multitude of pins you're about to
add to your board. step two: fill up your
board. begin by searching for pins.
anything that makes you think of your
brand or the creative project you're
working on. some topics to search for and
pin include: home decor, architecture,
fashion outfits, other logo designs, color
palettes, etc. whatever you come across
that gets you super excited and makes
you think "oh my goodness, i totally love
this!
this is exactly what I was envisioning!"
would be a good thing for you to pin to
your board. let's say for this board one
of the colors we're inspired by is purple.
in the Pinterest search bar we can
search for purple architecture and now a
bunch of purple doors and buildings are
going to appear. i really love this one
right here so i'm going to hover over
the image and click the pin button. make
sure that within each pin caption you
detail what it is you specifically like
about that image. this will be super
helpful in case you share your board with any
team member or brand designer. everyone
else who sees your board will be able to
accurately assess your visual aesthetic.
so in this one I really love the diamond
pattern on the door, so I am going to
make a note of that. and then i am going
to select my inspiration board and click
save. now let's search for purple fashion.
i really love this image, so i am going
to add this to my board. and i love the
detail on the dress... find my inspiration board
and save that pin. now i'm going to
search for purple color palettes to see
what other colors might fit the vibe that I'm
envisioning. ooo, it was really bright and
fine so I'm going to add that my board. i
love the pop of yellow against the
purple... and add that to my inspiration
board. don't feel like you're limited to
only what exists on pinterest. think
outside the box and pin your own
photos, scan your favorite textiles, add any
magazine clippings, etc. to upload an
original pin, navigate to the top of
your Pinterest page, click the plus icon and
click save from a website or upload an
image. you can type in a destination URL
if you want to and then click continue.
i am going to add a description to the
pin and add to my inspiration board. now
you see my inspiration board is
starting to take shape. and you can also
add a description to the entire board
itself by clicking on the pencil icon at
the top to add any notes about your
overall theme or inspiration. we can select
a category for the board and click save.
number three, take it a step further and
turn your mood board into a collage. you
can create a digital collage using a
program like adobe photoshop or you can
create a physical collage using the
tried-and-true old-fashioned paper, glue,
and poster board. if you're working with
a designer on your visual brand this is
likely something that they can create
for you. i love to create digital mood
boards based on Pinterest inspiration
boards for all of my brand design
clients! for a successful, visually
appealing mood board make sure that you
pin a variety of content. try to pin
only fashion outfits or only home
decor. mix it up and pin images
from a variety of categories to
accurately capture your style. that
covers it for how to create a mood board!
