Hi my name is Vilma Villatoro and I work at Woodlawn Elementary in the city of Bell.
It is part of lausd local district east.
All my students are Latinos.
Most are from low-income families.
I work in the RSP program with students with learning disabilities in grades kinder to
fifth grade.
My assistant and I work in small groups and with individual students across grades throughout
our day.
So we have to quickly switch from one grade to the next during our day.
We can teach kinder, our next group would be second grade. Then we have to switch to fourth
Throughout the day we switch from one grade to the next
So our days keeps us busy and its very interesting.
I try to keep up with the classroom curriculum, but make accomodations and modify work according
to student's needs within groups.
I became interested in teaching while I was a special ed teacher's assistant.
I was an assistant for ten years and finally took the leap of faith and applied to the
credential program.
I was very nervous to teach, but as time has passed I've become more comfortable and
confident to take on a teacher role.
I'm now just completing my third year.
I can say that I enjoy what I do and love helping students, supporting them in the classroom and helping them succeed
and accomplish their goals.
