Whats up everybody welcome back to another video, today I wanna talk a bit about mobile
games and exactly why people self included absolutely hate most of them.
I know I'm a little late to the Hate on Mobile Games Discussion, but I just wanted
to add my two cents.
So Lately in the gaming industry Publishers and Developers are putting more and more resources
into developing mobile titles.
Recently and Probably most Notably Diablo Immortal.
As a fan of Blizzard and just gaming in general, hearing from Blizzard's co-founder that
they have multiple teams working on mobile adaptations of all their franchises is the
last thing I wanted to hear, as well as basically everyone else.
Now to just get this out of the way, are all mobile games bad?
No, I'd argue there's a few good ones out there.
For example, recently for the first time, I made my first Appstore purchase of a 3 dollar
mobile game called Grimvalor.
The game as far as I can tell, doesn't seem to have any more forms of monetization in
it.
I paid for the game once, and now I play it when I'm taking a doo doo.
But This game is a rare gem amongst the steaming piles of garbage on mobile Appstores.
For every good game like Grimvalor, you get about 5000 games like Game of War, clash of
Clans, DC Legends, and The sadly ruined by EA Command & Conquer Mobile.
Now there's a lot of reasons these games I listed are bad and it simply comes down
to their monetization and absolute bad gameplay, let me just make that clear, these games are
not fun to play, but they are addictive.
Similar to Gambling at a slot machine, is pulling the lever that fun?
No but you still do it over and over til you realize you lost 300 dollars.
Now there are some morons out there who try to defend mobile games like these, but let's
be honest those people are absolutely braindead.
I think the biggest reason people get so upset over a mobile game announcement, are the same
reason people got upset several years ago when their favorite franchise was turned into
Kinect games.
There are no words to describe the heartbreak when watching a trailer for a Kinect Fable
Game.
Kinect was the most useless and unintuitive piece of hardware the world has ever seen,
and to see franchises like Fable, and lest we forget, sesame street Ruined by Kinect,
was a darn shame.
Understanding why people were upset with Fable The Journey isn't too complex.
To put it simply, It was a bit game that used the Fable license to sell copies.
It was a game that didn't deserve to be a part of the Fable Series, it was just a
poorly adapted knockoff version of it designed for bad hardware.
The same concern arises with Diablo Immortal, People feel as though the diablo Gameplay
will be simplified, and downgraded from an actual diablo game.
Which makes sense right, a phone doesn't have the memory, power, or technical advantages
that consoles or PC have to make a Big expansive Diablo game, so it will already pale in comparison
to its predecessors which understandably ticks people off.
Why should we accept that a "Sequel" or "New Entry" in the series will be a worse
less content filled version of what we already have, with pay to win mechanics and only playable
on my smart phone.
At the end of the day, focusing solely on mobile will only kill your company, tick off
fans, and only offers short term money gains that can't sustain a company long term.
I mean look at EA, cancelling every game that looks promising, yet still pumping out mobile
titles and adding more monetization to fifa and madden.
They are losing millions by the day and none of their mobile titles or microtransactions
can save them right now.
These are just one mans thoughts anyway, I'd love to hear what you guys think about mobile
games, enjoy the rest of the gameplay, Subscribe if you're new here, Like the video if you
enjoyed and I'll see you guys later.
So to answer the question, are mobile games killing Gaming, At times It feels this way,
but honestly, if a game is designed in a way that is meant to be played on a mobile device,
if the game isn't a stripped down version of an existing franchise, and if monetization
is kept to a minimum or is nonexistent then mobile games could actually be awesome.
I mentioned grimvalor, a game that costs up front but is a genuinely fun sidescrolling
action game designed for a mobile platform, I wouldn't expect to play the game on my
xbox, but it's good game to play on my phone.
