"We would eventually retire and have a larger home-base out West where we could have a farm

of sorts for ferrets and other unwanted animals to live peacefully, while we live as artists

without accepting any commissions, just creating for us."

"I would want to open my own bookstore in probably a sea-side town or somewhere sort

of small and really cater to the book-loving community.

[We'd] have a place where people could hang out, and read books..."

"My debt would be gone and i'll live close to really good friends, and i'll walk everywhere

or ride public transportation, and i'll have plenty of time and money to get better at

dancing."

"I live somewhat simply, and i'm actually totally okay with that."

"I think my future is more about my family's future?

And making sure that everyone is able to do what they're passionate about without money

having to be a problem."

"I don't think about money anymore."

"Being happy, healthy, wise, and wealthy."

"I have a home-base that I share with friends and family.

We all have separate little houses and share a main building with a common living room,

a kitchen, and have a massive studio space."

"I would still go to school.

Actually, I'd spend my life learning.

Higher education in any part of the world would be at the palm of my hands."

"My future would look like a lot less stress and anxiety... um... i'd probably live in

a cabin in the woods with multiple dogs."

"My dream future looks like a lifelong pursuit of happiness through traveling.

The world is so big and we are so small, I would love to be able to get out there to

explore the richness of each and every culture I can."

"I would buy a house, round up everyone that I love, and take care of them the way that

I was taken of when I was younger."

"My future would be calm and relaxing.

Without needing money I would devote my time to finding more hobbies.

I would regularly hang out with friends, enjoy good f-food, and listen to music."

-My name is Peter O'Neil.

I'm the C.E.O. of ASIS International.

So, I think it's important for associations

to practice forward-thinking and foresight

so that they're prepared for what's coming

and so that they can, in turn, prepare their association boards

and volunteers and members and their staffs

for what's coming.

And with ASAE ForesightWorks,

ASIS has moved into a rhythm of strategic planning

where we're always planning,

we're always looking at the future in some way,

still running the day-to-day business,

still producing the products and services

that we need to produce,

but we use foresight as a process

to stay ahead of what we think is coming.

Scouting the future is a journey.

It's not a destination.

And using foresight as a vehicle to get to the future,

it is a path that people take when they're ready

to really want to be prepared for what's coming.

We want to be the best professional society we can be

that represents physical- and cyber-security experts globally,

and the only way we can do that

is if we're sure that we have some sense

of where the association community itself is going.

That lets us stay in business

and do the work that we need to do

on behalf of our members.

So, the Drivers of Change helped ASIS

in its own strategy-planning process

by validating things for us that we believed we knew

and by showing us new areas for opportunity for consideration

that we wouldn't have known were going to be a challenge

or potential opportunity in the future.

I think that true leaders of the association profession

must turn their attention to the change drivers

that have been identified and produced by the ASAE Foundation.

I simply think there's no other way

to manage the future of associations

without that important knowledge.
