Hi my name is Travis Ramsey, I am a senior, and I am a multidisciplinary studies major

focusing on business, public administration, and communication.

I dont really know what I want to do after graduation, but I do see myself in business

operations but I'll figure that out as I go.

With that in mind, I am a central checkout manager at a local HEB and I basically just

help run the department, make sure things are going smoothly and I coach partners and

make sure that customers are dealt with and everything.

I feel like within my job I am able to assist my cashiers and be able to be there for them

whenever they need it and a specific instance was one of my cashiers was on a register and

a customer had started to go in her line and she basically just said "ya know ma'am, there

is nobody in the line beside me so she didnt have to wait because she had 3 more customers

to deal with before she got to the lady.

well the lady was an African American and she felt like this cashier was picking on

her or selecting her out because she was black and she called her a racist and it really

upset the customer and it upset my cashier.

but I was standing there the entire time, the cashier really didnt do anything wrong.

the only thing that happened was the way she said it, and not what she said.

she comes across as a little mean when she is in a rush which I mean everybody kinda

does.

I was able to pull the cashier aside and get the view of what happened.

the lady had gone down to a different register and was spewing all of these obscenities about

the cashier and all of this stuff that didnt happen.

I was able to calm down my cashier and be able to be there for her, let her know the

situation, and kind of coach her and advise her of how she could have handled the situation

a little bit better and I just feel like that is an important role for a manager to have

to do in operations.

deal with your customers, deal with your coworkers and make sure that things are running smoothly

and be able to be there for them when those instances happen.

My 3 goals for this class are to stay on top of my online study work because I kind of

am not self-disciplined so I am trying really hard to make sure I get everything done for

this class.

I want to learn to love the aspects of communications and why they are there and currently I hate

public speaking and I dont like dealing with communicating myself very well, but I am working

on it and understanding the aspects and why they are there.

and I just want to understand more about communications.
