Tally ho ladies and gents this is JimboMantis coming at you..... I've also got a hot
take for you eh....... As you may or may not be aware Twitch, the popular video streaming
service, recently announced on Monday that they would be removing ad free
viewing from their Twitch Prime subscription service. Now a lot of people
have been up in arms about this announcement but you know what.... I don't
really care.... Before we get into it let me just explain where I'm coming from. The
only reason why I have a Twitch Prime subscription is because I have an Amazon
Prime subscription. I see Twitch Prime as basically a perk
of Amazon Prime, it's a value add product meant to make Amazon Prime look better
for £80 a year or whatever that is in your local currency. As a consequence
of this I don't really mind having to watch adverts whilst watching a stream
because I haven't really paid anything extra to have them removed, if that makes
any sense at all. You don't have to pay anything extra for Twitch Prime above
Amazon Prime, so effectively you're getting all the
perks and benefits of Twitch Prime for free. So actually Twitch Prime is a
very, very good deal, but that's just where I'm coming from other people will
come at it from a different point of view but I'm just trying to explain here
where I'm coming from. So with that in mind let's get into this. So I think it's
best if I kick things off by reading the email that Twitch sent around about this
change. Now I did run into a slight problem when trying to read this email
because Twitch sent it to me in German! Do I look or sound like ze German to you?
Luckily just before I started recording this video Twitch sent me the same email
again in English...... so I was able to read it. So this is what the email said: We may
have previously sent you an email in German in error, no fucking shit! We
are sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused, well it wasn't really that
much of an inconvenience I do have Google Translate but anyway let's get
into the bulk of this email. When we launched Twitch Prime we were determined
to give streamers and their viewers the best value in gaming and since then
we've seen the Twitch community take advantage of Twitch Prime perks like a
monthly channel subscriptions to support favourite streamers, games with Prime and
in-game loot for games like Fortnite, PUBG, Hearthstone and more. On top of
everything you get through Amazon Prime, this year alone we've offered members
more than £700 worth of games and loot. As we've continued to add
value to Twitch Prime we have also reevaluated some of the existing Twitch
Prime benefits as a result universal ad free viewing will no longer be part of
Twitch Prime for new members starting on September 14th. Members with monthly
subscriptions will continue to get ad free viewing until October 15th. If you
already have an annual subscription, or if you upgrade to an annual subscription
before September 14th, you will continue with ad free viewing until your next
renewal date. Advertising is an important source of support for the creator's who
make Twitch possible. This change will strengthen and expand that advertising
opportunity for creators so that they can get more support from their viewers
for doing what they love. You can read more details on this change in our
recent blog post.... That is something that I have not read when making this video......
All other Twitch Prime benefits like monthly channel subs, monthly games and
loot and chat badges are not changing. You can still get channel specific ad
free viewing as part of Twitch Prime by using your monthly subscription token on
a channel that has ad free viewing for subscribers turned on. Plus all twitch
viewers can get ad free viewing across all channels by subscribing to Twitch
Turbo for $8.99 U.S. Dollars per month in addition to
your Prime membership fees and with your Twitch Prime membership you can still
take advantage of all other Amazon Prime benefits like two-day shipping and
access to Prime Video and Prime Music. Thank you for being a Twitch Prime
member, we look forward to bringing you even more amazing loot, games and
benefits over the coming year. So there are two maybe three things that I take
away from this email. The first thing is that the only thing to change is that
Universal ad free viewing is being taken away from Twitch Prime. Nothing else is
changing so you still get the free channel subscription you still get games
with Prime and you still get free in-game loot for whatever the games it
specifies are, none of which I'm interested in but that's not really the
point of this video so moving on. The second point that I take away from this
email, and this is the one I have a slight contention with because I think
it's a bit of a dick move on Twitch's part, is that twitch seems to be reviving
it's Turbo product. Now the question I have for Twitch is why? I don't see what
was wrong with moving all of the Turbo benefits over to Twitch Prime. Now
speaking of benefits let's actually have a look at what you get with Twitch Turbo.
You get: ad free viewing which you used to be able to get on Twitch Prime,
custom emoticon set, a unique badge, extended chat colours and increased video
storage. All of this will set you back near as makes no difference 9 dollars a
month. Is it worth it? Let me know what you think down in the comments but for
me personally, I would say that it's not worth it........ it's not even close. The only
thing that would be remotely useful to me in that list is ad free viewing, which
as I've stated before I don't really care too much about. The custom emoticon
set, badge and chat colours are all cosmetic and therefore have no worth to
me whatsoever. These are honestly such trivial things
to get and implement that Twitch can implement them for so little money to be
insignificant. Now the final perk is the increased video storage but this has
been rendered completely useless by the introduction of the video uploader.
What you do is you download the VOD of your past broadcast and just re-upload
it using the video uploader, therefore getting round the video storage limits.
So that feature is basically worth no money, the only thing that Twitch are
actually charging you for in Twitch Turbo is the ad free viewing, so forgive
me if I see this is a very cynical attempt to extract more money from us. I
am NOT a fan of this move, it is a massive dick move by Twitch in my
opinion. Now I think it is worth pointing out that you still can get ad free
viewing on Twitch when you use your trip your free channel subscription to
subscribe to a channel. Now granted it's only ad free viewing on that channel and
the streamer has to have actually turned on ad free viewing for their channel in
their channel settings but heck it's still better than nothing I suppose. But
I'm still left wondering why they couldn't roll all of this into Twitch
Prime, even if they had to reposition Twitch Prime as a paid add-on to Amazon
Prime it would still be a damn sight less convoluted than it is now.
Anyway that's all I really had to say on the matter, I don't really care about ad
free viewing being removed from Twitch Prime, however I am very cynical about
what I can only see as a cash grab by Twitch with the revival of their Turbo
product for seemingly no reason at all. I will just also points out that this
video is basically just my opinion based on the information received in that
email. If any other information comes out before this video is released but after
I've recorded it..... then new information will come out I will probably release
some sort of update video or I will put the update in the comments one of the
two but right now the email is the only piece of information I've really got to
go off. Now, if anyone actually does have any extra information on this please
leave a comment down below with your thoughts on the matter I would love to
read the read them and talk to you about it. If you like this video thumbs up and
subscribe and share this video with your friends, let's get this
channel going, let's get a bit of momentum going. Thank you so much for
watching and until the next time this is JimboMantis checking out.
