The Making Of The Black Eyed Peas' "Street Livin'" Video With will.i.am | Framework - Duration: 4:46.
To me this hit home.
I have a cousin that looks like this dude.
I got a nephew that looks like this dude.
And that could've been me.
It looks like family.
The lyric: "Guns or books, sell crack or rap."
You know their choice that they chose.
It sure ain't books.
A lot of times a still image is more powerful than moving images.
Especially with the right image.
The whole premise was take a still image and bring it to life.
Where you're immersed in it and the story and the music is like hypnotic.
All the photos were taken and licensed from Getty.
I would look for images that reflected the emotion when I wrote my verse.
And then we did the parallax, where you chop up the photo into bits and then reconfigure
it so the camera feels as if it's moving through the scene.
And then replaced the mouth.
Every single photo was done this way.
The busk of Zulu X from our graphic novel, 'Masters of the Sun.'
Zulu X is like us.
As Zulu turns you're about to see the world that he's been living.
You have this American dream here with the Statue of Liberty.
Then you have the status, and then the state of life in the hood.
These folks are statistics.
They're going to end up in prison or end up in jail or end up dead.
Here's the state of life, homelessness, no opportunities, living on the streets.
When you see the video you think that this plane is this plane, but it's two totally
different planes.
"CIA planes bring Colombian drugs" because that did happen in the 80's.
Not only drugs, but weapons.
You know what freeway it happened on too, in LA.
You know that it's right there off the 105.
And you know that every single project in LA is right next to some freeway.
Those freeways connect straight to that little private airplane strip next to LAX.
And no coincidence that his name is Freeway Ricky Ross.
It's Martin Luther King.
He had a dream, but on every single Martin Luther King is a nightmare.
The metaphor is we caged the dream.
It's not being implemented to it's full gravitas.
It's great that he's acknowledged and there's Martin Luther King Boulevards.
I just want to see the investment fully flourished, and not the recipients of the dream to be
behind bars.
This was one of the most technical things to accomplish.
These are two still images.
We stitch it all together, put another still image in this image.
What that is, is like hip-hop the same way as like, "Yo man, I got this drum loop from
James Brown, I got the base line from John Coltrane, and I got this guitar riff from
Jimmy Hendrix."
Three different genres of music.
And what hip-hop did was they stitched them together to create a new song.
Same sample mentality.
We sampled two pictures, three dimensionalized them, and created a scene to where these two
kids are watching it on TV, like entertainment.
2017 Black Eyed Peas, we did a new version of 'Where is the Love.'
There was no call to action so we wanted to do that on "Street Livin."
And something simple that everyone can do.
Stay Woke really is to have more, have a balance on the things you follow.
It don't always have to be numbskull-ness.
There's a lot of numbskulling, thumbing happening in our society where we just thumbing through life.
We get hypnotized every day by our phones and our feed.
Stay Woke, whatever it means to you, make sure you have a dose of wokeness in your daily
thumbing activities.
I just be thumbing. I'm just thumbing. I just thumped for 30 minutes bro.

FLASHBACK: Pants Off! (Music Video) - Duration: 3:30.
You're stuck in traffic. It's a jam.
You think you're comfy, but not as much as I am.
You can't get much more feet in your minivan
If you do, like me, and show the line of your tan
Too many things in my life are constricting (so tight)
Around my waist, I feel my movements restricting (that's right)
So my solution and my problem I'm inflicting
See this image that my words here are depicting
You take your pants off.
You turn and take a cough
You take your pants off.
When it comes to pants, I've had enough
You take your pants off.
Taking those pants off
If I was a girl, I'd wear a skirt.
But as the boss, it would be harder to flirt.
Now when I meet them I perform a little test
I wear a suit, but I wear it pants-less
I take my pants off.
I lose the pants and do it quick
We take our pants off.
My underwear tends to stick
We'll take our pants off
And we will make it look good
Got shoes and shirt, no service but you'd think that I would
I'm at my girlfriend's house, I'm meeting the folks.
I'm making nice and I'm cracking some jokes
(ha ha ha ha)
We're having dinner and it goes very well
But then my stomach starts to grumble and it starts to swell
So I take my pants off.
My girl is freaking right out
I take my pants off.
And mom is starting to shout
Dad takes his pants off
He says he does that too
Everybody is losing their pants and
so should you.
I'm going jogging in the middle of night
The cops, they ask me if everything is all right?
I reply, "Yes, as a matter of fact,"
"Because I left my pants about four blocks back!"
I took my pants off
They arrest him then and there.
About my pants off
They comment on his pubic hair
I wax that shit off
Where did you get that done
I convinced the cops that going pantsless is fun
They take their pants off.
Everyone in City Hall
We take our pants off
but I tuck in my ball
Protest with pants off
Stand up for our pantsless rights
We'll be marching pantsless till the middle of night
You take your pants off
It's just a matter of fact
We take those pants off
Remove your trousers and slacks
We love our pants off
So try to be like our gang
Everybody will see exactly how well you hang
Ha ha ha ha
Ha ha ha ha
Ha ha ha ha
Ha ha ha ha
