So, today we're going to be talking about the Alphabet.

Does anybody know what the alphabet are?

Yes, Arlette?

They're letters, right?

So, the alphabet are letters.

Does anybody know how many alphabet we have?

Yes, Kendall?

There are 26 letters in the alphabet.

Can anybody look around the classroom and see where the alphabet are?

Yes, Bryson. Right there. You are absolutely correct.

Now let's sing the alphabet song. 1, 2, 3…

A, B, C, D, E, F, G

H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P

Q, R, S

T, U, V

W, X, Y, Z

Now I know my ABC's, next time won't you sing with me.

So now, I'm going to read a book called "Alphabet Under Construction" by Denise Fleming

I want you guys to listen carefully for the different letters in the alphabet, okay?

Yes, Bryson

Bryson: "A"

Yes, I'm going to be reading it to you.

*Reads story*

Now what we're going to do is, we're going to play Alphabet Bingo

How many of you remember playing this game?

So what I'm going to do is, I'm going to pass out a card to each of you.

You guys have to fill your card.

I'm going to give you guys some chips

I'm going to call out the letters of the alphabet and you have to place the chip on the specific letter

Whoever fills up their card is the winner

I have to shuffle the cards

Alright, so the first letter we have is "A"

Julian, I think you have "A" on your board

Remember to look at your own board and don't look at nobody else's okay?

We have the big "A" then we have the little "a".

The next letter we have is "E"

We have the big "E" then we have the little "e".

What sound does "E" make?

The next letter we have is "Y"

Y!

Yes, that's a "Y"

Kendall has a "Y"

This is our "Y". We have a big "Y" then we have a little "y"

What sound does "Y" make?

Like yo-yo. Good job!

We have a big "I" then we have a little "i"

Hi, my name is Eric Pederson. I'm a lawyer at Velletta & company, practicing employment law. Today

We're going to talk about another employment law topic which is

constructive dismissals

Now a constructive dismissal is really just a fancy way to say "I

quit" to your employer, but to also at the same time

exercise and enforce all of the rights that you would have if you were an employee who was fired without cause.

So the general rule of thumb and British Columbia is that an

employee an employee who quits their position isn't going to be entitled to any severance pay or any notice.

They're walking away from the job, and you know that's on them

But constructive dismissal is a very specific

category in the law that allows an employee who quits

To bring a claim against the employer for severance. The idea is is that although the employer hasn't fired the employee

they have, by their conduct or the way that they might have changed the employees

workplace or duties,

changed their employment.

Such to the point that they've pretty much been fired and have all of the rights of a fired employee, so not every minor

change that an employer might make to an employee's

employment contract or to their workplace will result in an employee having the rights of a constructively dismissed employee.

A really obvious example would be if you were a CEO one day

and then you showed up the next day, and you were demoted to Janitor.

Well you haven't been fired, but you're essentially being fired

You have all of the same rights to claim for severance as an employee who has been fired?

but not all cases are that black and white and

there's a lot of gray area so it's important that you do consult a lawyer before exercising the

option of constructive dismissal
