Andrea: Hi everyone! So today I thought I'd do a
pretty relax sit down video with my friend Tommy.
Tommy: Hello there.
Andrea: Hi
Tommy do you want to introduce yourself to everyone?
Tommy: Sure! I'm Tommy Edison from the
Tommy Edison XP channel.
And I talk about my life as a blind person.
And I answer viewer questions
about the blind experience.
Ranging from anything, like how I know if I'm
awake or not.
To even how I use a smart phone or a computer.
Andrea: So today, I thought we'd talk about
our funniest stories we've encountered with our disabilities.
Tommy: (laughs)
Andrea: So, would you like to start?
Tommy: I will, I'll start the proceedings here.
I was on the train one time,
in Connecticut going down to Manhattan.
And I was using my phone.
Now when I use my cell phone,
I keep the screen curtain on.
So that..I don't want people to see what I'm doing right?
It's none of their business.
Um, and I've had phones on.
And all of a sudden,
I feel this woman tugging on my phone
and taking it away from me and I said
"Woah, what are you doing?"
She's like "Your phone is broken" and I said
"It is not broken."
She said "Well the screen, I can't see anything
on your screen."
And I said "Yeah I know, that's so you can't look at it."
(Tommy and Andrea laugh)
Tommy: It was very strange, she literally
was grabbing the phone out of my hand to try and fix my phone for me.
Andrea: You should of said when she's like "Oh
I couldn't see your phone"
"Like I can't see it either!"
(Tommy laughs)
Tommy: It'll happen again, trust me.
What about you? Tell me a funny story about uh..
what's happen with your disability?
Andrea: So
when I was little, I think it
I think it was middle school. My friend and I
where she lived in her apartment complex, across the street was
like a store that was just built but there was no
security cameras around it.
So we found the ladder to get on the roof,
(Tommy inhales)
Andrea: And so we brought food, we had a picnic.
It was great.
And then as we came back downstairs
and we're crossing the street back to her apartment.
My friend looked down,
and noticed my foot was bleeding.
And for those who don't know, I have nerve damage in my feet.
I can't feel anything.
And she started freaking out.
She was just like "Andrea your foot is bleeding
Are you okay? What are we going to do?"
(Tommy laughs)
Andrea: And I just looked down and I went
Oh.
okay.
I guess we can just clean it.
But I was so calm and just
I thought it was hilarious. She was more concerned than I was.
Tommy: Now was it a giant wound?
I mean like it didn't require stitches or anything right?
It was just a bit of a scratch right?
Andrea: I mean it healed on it's own, I never told my mom.
I kind of just like, hid it from her and
I got the bleeding to stop...it...it
bled a lot, there was a trail on the street.
Tommy: Wow
Andrea: So
but that, my feet getting hurt is such a normal
thing for me that I like
I forget that a person that can feel their feet
a reaction is to freak out.
When you get hurt.
And I'm just like "oh
just the day in the life!"
Tommy: That's all. Just clean it up and move on right?
Andrea: Yeah.
Tommy: So when I was in high school, I went away to school.
I went to boarding school, not because
it wasn't a school for the blind or any kind of thing like that.
I was just a lousy student so.
Andrea: Awww
Tommy: My parents were like "You wanna go to boarding school kid?"
I was like "Yeah sure let's go."
So I went to boarding school and I was away.
You know, I lived at school.
So I'll never forget (laughs)
I think it was the first or second time I came home for the weekend.
Um, I walked in the house
and walked into the living room.
And the furniture was completely different.
My mother rearranged the furniture and forgot to tell me.
(Tommy and Andrea laugh)
Tommy: Right? So it was really weird but
you know there's a really sweet part of that story too
and that is, you know what
that's how normal everything is.
I mean she didn't even think she had to tell me,
You know what I mean?
Andrea: Mhm
Tommy: Um so it's very cool. I like how that all worked out.
Tommy: (laughs) Now it's just a very funny story.
Andrea: If my mom took me home and everything was moved,
and I didn't know,
I'd be like "You're giving me to a new family?"
Tommy: (laughs)
Andrea: Is this what's happening? You're getting rid of me?
(Tommy continues to laugh)
Andrea: You don't love me anymore!?
Tommy: Well I was like "You like having me away"
Very good.
Andrea: I think I'll share my last one.
It's not really from my perspective, I only remember a little bit.
But my mom...she told me this story.
Um, I was in the hospital and I had to get a pickline.
Which is kind of like an IV
but it's a more painful process.
I was freaking out, I was having a panic attack.
They gave me medicine to know me out
but since I was already freaking out, it didn't work right away.
And the nurse, bless his heart, tried
to like become friends with me.
To make the process easier.
He found out my mom worked at ROSS at the time.
And he was like "Oh I love shopping at ROSS."
And then right when he finished, I was so angry
that I was like "You're never allowed at ROSS ever again!"
And then I passed out right after I said that.
Like my mom said it was like a movie moment.
I was...apparently, I was 10 I think.
And I was so angry at this guy,
that I banned him from ROSS.
And I have no authority over that place.
Tommy: Well listen, he's probably never gone back since.
Andrea: I hope he thinks about me though if he does go.
Tommy: He thinks about you in VONS or Ralph's.
(Tommy and Andrea laugh)
These are LA jokes, so you have to be from out here to know all these.
Andrea: Yeah except none of that exists in Florida.
So...that's where I grew up.
Tommy: Oh well see, and I thought it was an LA joke.
Andrea 1, Tommy nothing.
Andrea: Well speaking of that...of a point system.
If you want to see, Tommy and I actually compete
go to his channel after you're (car honks) done watching this...
rude. So rude!
Tommy: Listen, they thought you were going to say something dirty, that's all.
Andrea: Fair, absolutely fair!
Andrea: If you want to go to Tommy's channel and
watch the video we filmed where we compete
on the blind vs. blind folded game?
Go do that, because it's fun and there's a lot more jokes from us there.
Tommy: Yeah it's a great time and it's a fun game.
I think it's something fun you know, maybe you can play with your friends.
Like this could be the new party game of the summer, who knows!
Well thanks so much for having me on your channel.
It's been great fun telling these little stories.
Andrea: I know, thank you for coming!
And I like how even though we have such different disabilities,
we still find humor in it.
And have these funny stories from our childhood.
Tommy: Of course, hey listen, this is our normal.
This is what I always talk about. It's my normal it's your normal.
And it's something that we live with every day,
you know what if we can't laugh about it, who can right?
Andrea: Exactly.
Thank you for coming, thank you everyone for watching.
Go over to Tommy's channel, subscribe.
If you want,
funny videos
and we will see you next time.
bye!
