Hey guys, so today's video is going to be
a book haul. Most of these books I got in January, but I
didn't feel like filming a
book haul in January, so I'm just going to film this now
and I'll call it my January / February
book haul. So yeah, let's just get
started. So the first book in this haul
is Wonder by RJ Palacio. The reason I
got this is because, as you can see, it's
going to be a movie soon. I'm not sure if
I'm going to see the movie, but I wanted
to read the book. I've heard fantastic things,
but I really don't know anything about
it except for I'm pretty sure it's middle grade,
I think, or early young adult, but I'm
pretty sure it's middle-grade. I also got it for
less than ten dollars hardcover on
Amazon, so that was a steal. The next
book I got was Simon vs. the Homo
Sapiens Agenda by Becky Abertalli. This
is another one I got for cheap on Amazon,
I think this was like six or seven
dollars. I've heard this is cute, I know the
main character is gay and it's won an
award and people like it and those
are the things I know about it, and so
I'll read it and see what I think of it.
I hope I like it a lot. The next book I
got was The One and Only Ivan by Katherine
Applegate. This one is definitely middle
grade. I think Ivan is the gorilla on
here and he lives in a zoo in the mall,
I've heard. I think that's what it is.
Yeah, in a mall. I haven't read
very many books with an animal main
character. I mean there was that Warriors
series, if you know what I'm talking
about; the never-ending series about
cats. I've read a lot of those. I stopped
reading them but I used to read them a lot. But other
than that... there's one about a dog I read
when I was a kid. I can't really
remember what it's called. It's by Ann
M Martin but I can't remember what it's called. Anyway, I
bought this because it was like six
dollars and the main character is not a
human being. So this was probably the one
in this book haul I'm most excited for
and it's the Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott
Lynch. This is the first book in
a high fantasy, I want to say heist
series. I mean, I know the main characters
are thieves... well, the main character is a
thief.
I think there's more than one thief, I don't know.
But I've heard there's lots of fun
characters and that sounds good to me. I
was actually really tempted to buy the
second book as well, but I thought I'll
try this out. It's around 700 pages and I
really want to read it really soon.
This will probably be one of the books I get
to sooner rather than later, so if I like
this I'll get more in the series. The next
book I got is The Long Way to a Small
Angry Planet by Becky Chambers. I actually
like the other cover a lot better than
this one but there's a second book and
the second book cover matches this one, so I
thought I'd get this one just in case
I like it a lot. So I know absolutely
nothing about this except for it's
science-fiction. That's it, that's all I
know. I've heard it's pretty diverse,
not sure though. I do know people
like it and I'm gonna read it and see if
I like it, and hopefully I do. The next
book I got is Brooklyn, Burning by Steve
Brezenoff. The reason I got this is
because the author writes this book in a
way that we never know the gender of the
main character, so I think they/them
pronouns are used,
I believe. That's literally all I know. I
don't actually know anything about the
plot or the character themselves, but
I don't know, we'll see what I think of it. The next one
I got is A Dog's Purpose by W.
Bruce Cameron. I got this before the
stuff came out about the movie, so I was
going to watch the movie, I'm not going to
watch the movie now, but I do want to
read the book so... I bought the book to
read it. Oh, this is another one with the
main character not being a human being.
I think the dog is reincarnated
a couple times or several times or a lot
of times. That's all I know, but it sounds
fun.
The next book in this book haul is
The Lacuna by
Barbara Kingsolver. So the only other
book I've read by Barbara
Kingsolver was The Poisonwood
Bible. I had to read it for school and I
actually really really liked it. So
I wanted to read you more of her work and I
just picked this one at random.
Really, I didn't look up any
reviews for any of the other books that
she's written, I just picked this one at
random, so we'll see how it goes. I really
like the first one I read by her,
so hopefully I like this one as well. Next
I got two books by Jon Krakauer. I got
Into the Wild and Under the Banner of
Heaven. This one I read four years
ago- around that time- and I really liked
it. I've also read Into Thin Air.
I read that last year. Was it my top two or...?
It was definitely in my top five favorite
books the year, I think it was top three at
least.
But this one I have not read. I
just really like Jon Krakauer's writing.
He makes nonfiction... I mean nonfiction
isn't usually boring, I mean, I guess
that's a stereotype of it, but he makes it
very very interesting and it almost feels
like I'm reading a fiction book rather
than something that actually happened.
So yes, hopefully I like this one as well. I
think this is the biggest one.
Into Thin Air might be about the same,
but I think this one is bigger than that.
Anyway...
I don't know why I always have to show you how long
the books are, but I do that.
I also want to reread
Into the Wild
pretty soon, so that's those two. And the
last thing I have to show you in this
book haul is the March box set by
Congressman John Lewis. So this
is all three volumes in one and I got
it for pretty cheap on Barnes and Noble,
actually. They we're having... I think I got
a coupon. So this is very relevant right
now and I felt the need to educate
myself so I decided to get this box set of
the graphic novels and read them.
I've generally kind of moved away from
graphic novel reading. I still have a couple, but
I've moved more to manga. But this is
important, so I bought it and I'm going
to read it. I'll also show you the covers
individually. This is the first volume
or book one.
Here is the back.
It also has really nice French flaps I
think they're called. So there's that one.
Here is book two and I really like the
back of this one, it looks like stained glass kind
of. And then here is March book 3, and
here is the back.
