Hey guys, it's Trina and this is my video
for Monthly Recommendations this month.
This is a group that was created by
Kayla Rayne and myself and this month
our topic for recommending books around
is OTPs. If you are familiar with what
OTP stands for it stands for one true
pairing. It is a fictional couple that you
feel are really meant to be together
or they're your favorite. I do want to
give you guys a fair warning that if you
consider romantic pairings to be a
spoiler this may be a video that you
want to skip. I know some people consider
that stuff to be spoilers so if you
don't want to even have an inkling of
possible romantic pairings then this may
not be the video for you, just saying.
Also, I'm going to be talking more about
the couples and why I like them as
opposed to like what the books are
about but I will put links to all the
books mentioned in this video down below

to find out more info.
The first OTP I want to mention is the
couple from Carry On by Rainbow Rowell. I
really love Simon and Baz together. This
is a classic case of enemies to lovers.
Tht is a trope that I really enjoy because
Simon Snow is like your heroic
golden boy figure and then Baz is like your
dark brooding anti-hero or villain and he
just is out to get Simon and Simon
is always wrapped up in 'is Baz out to
get me?' and they just have this
antagonism between them... and then that
changes. I personally really love
like how it changed. There's a particular scene, I
don't really want to say too much, but there's a scene in this
book that was SO emotionally charged and so
sweet and I just really enjoyed this
pairing. Simon and Baz. Definitely an OTP for me.
The next couple is one that's always,
always the first one that comes to mind
whenever I'm making lists of like ships
or OTPs and that is a couple from
Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood. I love
Finn and our main character Cate together. I
was like rooting for them right away. Finn
is such a great book boyfriend in my opinion
because he's a nice guy,
he's a bookish guy, he's a feminist.
It's really refreshing to see the nice guy
like not being totally walked all over
and treated like an underdog. Jessica
Spotswood has written these
romantic moments so well and like
tension and the swoon just jumped off
the pages. Finn and Cate are a couple that I
really love. They're one of my all-time
favorite ships for sure. Next I'm gonna
throw it way way back to The Hunger Games
by Suzanne Collins. I wanted to put it on
my list because this is one of the first
couples that I was ever shipping, that I
can remember shipping. That is Katniss and
Peeta. I was totally team Peeta! I love the
dynamic between these two characters
because you don't know if their feelings
for each other are real or if they're just
for the camera. I always thought they
were real, like from the start I always
thought they were real and just watching
Katniss like process her feelings and
figuring out for herself if they're real. I
just... it's one of my first ships and I really had to
include it on this list. Katniss and Peeta.
Another older dystopian series that I
really enjoyed and definitely had a team
in was the Delirium trilogy by Lauren
Oliver. I actually was really shipping
Lena and Julian together. They were my
OTP from that series.
There is a love triangle in this series so I
don't know how many people liked Julian
with our main character Lena or not. The
way that the second book in this series
explored second relationships did it in a
way that really spoke to me. It explicitly
said like opening yourself up to love a
second time is harder because now that
you know what love is and what it feels
like to have lost the first relationship,
you know what heartbreak is now and
you're opening yourself up to maybe
experience that again. Pandemonium (book 2) really
changed the way that I looked at
relationships in YA books and it let
me reflect a lot on myself because I've
had multiple relationships in my
lifetime. I was like wow that's kind of
heavy, that's kind of true. One of the
characters is like in the rebellion and the
other one is like the son of the leader
who they were going against so it's
kind of this like forbidden aspect to it.
I was picking up a lot of romantic tension and
I just loved how that book explored moving on and
opening yourself up to love after you
know how badly it can hurt when it
ends. Next I want to talk about the To
All the Boys I've Loved Before series by Jenny
Han. Lara Jean and Peter were an OTP for
me. However, I do feel like that's kind of
limited to the first book. I was really
shipping in the first book because this setup of
things, like it's set up to be like a
fake relationship and that's a trope in
romances that I really like. I'm
always thinking like, 'Ooo! What if this becomes
a real relationship!" I was really really
on board Lara Jean and Peter's ship in book one.
In book two things played out in a
different way that made me kind of not
really ship anybody but I did
really love all the swoony feelings that I got
from book one so I definitely wanted to
mention them. Another series that I think
is full of ships that you would
probably enjoy you're looking for
romantic reads around the time of year
would be any of the Anna and the French Kiss
books by Stephanie Perkins. There are
three main relationships in this series.
My favorite one is actually Isla and Josh
from book number three.
However, I think that I swooned way more over
Lola and Cricket from book two. That is
really only because I loved Cricket Bell
so much. I was shipping them like on his
side of things. I didn't really love how
Lola treated things and how she handled some
situations so I wasn't necessarily
shipping them together, I just really wanted
her to like see how amazing Cricket was
because he's another sweet, nice guy who
was very supportive and I was like
please just see how amazing he is! I wanted
him to get the girl inthe end. Another of my
all-time favorite OTPs, I just read
this book last year but I still have the
feels and I can't get over it,
is Simon and Blue rom Simon vs the
Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli.
Blue is the nickname of a guy that
Simon talks to online and he doesn't
actually know Blue's real identity and I
was just rooting this entire time for
them to please find out who each other
are and get together. The chemistry between
these two characters was again just off
the pages! This book was so emotionally charged.
I really felt like it captured those feelings
of crushes and first love so so well. I had
all the feels for Simon and Blue, and I
still do! They are so cute together.
I'm shipping Simon blue forever. Another
one of my favorite OTPs of all time are
from The Infernal Devices trilogy by
Cassandra Clare. This trilogy has a
very infamous love triangle. You have
Tessa and Will or Tessa and
Jem. I was team Jem all the way! Now,
don't get me wrong, I don't un-ship
Tessa and Will. I like Tessa and Will as well. I
was just like shipping Tessa and Jem
together so bad and I think that things
ended up just how we're supposed to at
the end of the series. It was so
fulfilling how things played out and when I
finished that series, I don't know what I
was feeling. I was feeling like every feeling
possible. I was feeling heartbreak, I was
feeling.. just emotional, and... [sigh] It got me. It got
me. It really did. I still feel so invested in
those characters. I do also want to
talk about another Cassandra Clare
couple and that is from Lady Midnight.
I ship some characters that aren't really
canon, or maybe they are, maybe they
aren't? I don't really know but guys I really ship
Emma and Mark together. I do want to
point out that Mark is a bisexual
character so I don't want to like
erase his identity or anything, that is
represented in that book, but I really
love Emma and Mark together because of
events that happen at the very end, like
the last chapter, and even the last line,
the very last few words spoken at the
end of that book just... got me... in the
feels. I really kind of want these characters
together now. I don't want to outright
spoil the book so I'm not going to tell
you guys what it is but the setup with
them does play into one of the tropes
I have mentioned earlier in this video
so that's just kind of why it got me,
it's because it's a trope that I have
really enjoyed when it comes to romances.
So those are all of the OTPs that I want to
talk about in this video. I definitely
have more from a lot of other book
series, I just didn't want this video to get too
