Emergency Department Video FINAL - Duration: 5:01.

Welcome to the Leonard and Madlyn Abramson Family Emergency Department at Einstein Medical

Center Montgomery.

Every day, our dedicated staff cares for hundreds of patients with illnesses and injuries that

range from minor cuts and bruises that require stitches or casts, to life-threatening conditions,

like stroke and cardiac arrest.

Many of our most critical patients arrive by ambulance through the ambulance entrance

and go directly to the treatment area.

If you came through our main Emergency Department entrance, one of the first people you'll

see is a triage nurse.

Triage is a clinical assessment of a patient's symptoms that helps determine the priority

of patient needs based on a standardized severity index of when a patient will be seen by a

physician or qualified medical provider.

This helps to streamline care and ensure that patients whose lives may depend on getting

care quickly, can be given the highest priority.

After triage, you will receive a medical screening exam to determine whether you have a medical

emergency The reasons one patient is seen before another

are not always obvious, but our triage nurses are specially trained to determine how time-sensitive

each patient's condition is.

For example, a black and blue ankle may look bad but is not usually life-threatening, while

a patient complaining of chest pain may look fine even though they have a potentially life-threatening

condition.

Of course, conditions can change, so if you begin to feel worse or your symptoms change,

don't hesitate to tell a nurse or doctor.

The physician in charge of your care is known as your "attending physician".

Your care team may include nurses, physicians, resident physicians, physician's assistants,

and nurse practitioners, as well as registration staff, emergency department techs, and hospital

unit coordinators.

Each member of your care team wears different color scrubs depending on their role, making

them easy to identify.

In addition to the Emergency Department staff, you may also see on-call specialists or receive

testing services like labs, radiology, and special imaging.

These resources are an important part of making sure you get the best possible care and help

us determine the best treatment for you.

Because these resources are shared by the entire hospital, sometimes it can take a little

longer than you might expect.

To protect the privacy of our patients, ensure patient and staff safety, and keep the emergency

department running smoothly, we ask that our guests follow these 4 common courtesies…

First, a lot of sick people come through the Emergency Department, so for your safety and

theirs, please use the hand sanitizing stations.

Second, please take phone calls outside or use text messages whenever possible.

Do not take pictures or videos out of respect for everyone's privacy.

Third, please refrain from yelling, swearing, vulgar language, and aggressive behavior.

If your attending physician determines that your medical condition requires you to be

admitted to the hospital or placed in observation, we will move you to an inpatient unit as quickly

as possible.

However, during the hospital's busiest times, we may need to keep you in the Emergency Department

until an inpatient bed becomes available.

If your attending physician determines that you do not need to be admitted or placed in

observation, you may be discharged to home or depending on your medical condition, you

may be transferred to another hospital or medical facility for further care.

In addition to your basic medical information and your diagnosis, your discharge papers

will include the information you need to follow up in order to make the fullest recovery possible.

This includes instructions for medications and at-home care, instructions on who to follow

up with and when, and a list of symptoms that mean you should seek emergency care.

After you are discharged, you may be asked to complete a brief survey about your care,

so expect to receive an email or phone call.

It's important that you let us know how we did so we can recognize team members or

learn what we can do better.

If you think we provided exceptional care while you were a patient, please score us

"9" or "10".

If there are things we could do better, please let us know by entering a comment.

If you have any concerns while in the Emergency Department, please let your nurse or physician

know.

We appreciate your patience and attention.

We know that waiting for care in an emergency can be stressful, so please let us know if

you have any questions or if there's anything you need.

Thank you for choosing Einstein Medical Center Montgomery!
