Alright, so...
we just finished filming an
episode of the #SocialRecap which means that
it's actually time to start working
on the next one already, but first I need
a little something to drink, so let's go to
the kitchen
So let me
just get some of that water
So how do we prepare
for each episode of the #SocialRecap? If we
wanted to generalize, I guess we could try
to sum that up into 7
of the most important steps. So, for
the #SocialRecap, we are
all about news. So, this is
news about business, digital
marketing, tech and, of course
social media. So the most
important thing that we have to do
is just keep track and find
all of the key developments that
happening in these areas
And this brings us to
the first 1st and most important step of the
#SocialRecap which is finding and
tracking our topics and it
actually starts with this guy, right there
(Mateusz) Hi, hello
(Chia) Hey, this is Mateusz
So, we
were actually just talking about the #SocialRecap
(Mateusz) Yeah, I know (Chia) Yeah, of course he knows, he's been
standing here the whole time
So we, actually, we just
filmed the last episode (Mateusz) Yeah
(Chia) and you know what that means
(Mateusz) Yeah, it's time for preparing the next
one (Chia) Exactly
So I thought this time, we could go a
different way, and just kind of show people what
our creative process looks like
(Mateusz) OK, sounds good (Chia) Yeah, and since
you are Step 1, I thought you could
show them, just, what's the most important
part of step 1: finding the topic?
(Mateusz) OK, but I need
my computer. So, let's go!
(Chia) Great, follow him
(Mateusz) And
this is where it starts! Step 1
is about finding the best
topics, so I monitor the Internet with
our tool. It's how I
track almost all the topics for
#SocialRecap
But wait, wait - this is for the next episode!
(Chia) So this is the most important part
of Step 1: finding and tracking topics
for each episode? (Mateusz) Exactly
Now I need to focus
(Chia) Alright, I'll let you get to it
OK
So, I have just received
a list of really important topics from Mateusz
that he's been tracking for the #SocialRecap
Wait!
Wait - this is for the next
episode, so if you wanna find
out about the topics, you're just gonna have
to watch. Anyway
so, after Step 1, this is kind of
where I come in. So, Mateusz
is keeping track of
key trends and really important topics
by monitoring the Internet and
then it's my job to filter it
all down. He sends me huge
lists - I cannot possibly talk
about 100 different topics in 1
episode - that would take hours!
So I try to focus on
the big stuff. I create
a written concept of the
#SocialRecap and I
guess that's the most important part of Step
2: filtering it down and
focusing. We actually
have 2 different versions of
the #SocialRecap. So, there's
the MINI #SocialRecap, which is just
a really quick rundown of the
headlines plus a few basic facts
and we also have the FULL #SocialRecap
for YouTube. This
is a much deeper look at
the news and it also offers some
insights into how the news might
affect us. Everything requires
a different approach, a different perspective
and, of course, different content!
Yeah, so, that is
basically Step 2: Filtering
and focusing - creating the written
concept. Trust me, you want to write everything down!
But, yeah, then
Step 3
is recording
You guys might recognize this
place. This is our
silent room, and it's also
where we film the #Social
#SocialRecap. So I try to do everything in 1 take
So I film both
versions for the MINI #SocialRecap as
well as the FULL #SocialRecap in 1 day, one
after the other and Darek our
cameraman, he comes in and he helps us film
everything, and after we
have that done, it is time for
the next step, which is special
effects. So, come let - let's go see how
the next step is doing - Step 4.
(Chia) Hey (Mateusz) Hi
(Chia) It's just me
so I came
to check up on you, see how you're
doing - did you get everything that you need?
(Mateusz) Yes, I have everything (Chia) So, what
exactly are you working on now? (Mateusz) Now I'm
adding some special effects (Chia) So
let me tell you a little bit about
this: after I have created
a full written concept for both versions
that's the FULL #SocialRecap as well as the MINI
#SocialRecap, I send
the entire written concept over
to Mateusz, our special effects master
and
so while I'm recording, he's
going through all the materials, and
he's finding all the places that
he thinks needs a little extra
something-something, like, this could be a
video, a graphic, an animation
basically, whatever his
heart desires, he holds
all the power at this time
yeah
but what I find really
really interesting, is that he does
this almost, kind of, blindly
like, so, Mateusz
do you see recordings of
me doing the videos
when you're planning out the special effects?
(Mateusz) To be honest, no...
(Chia) So
all the special effects are kind of just
based loosely on a written concept?
(Mateusz) Exactly, Chia!
(Chia) OK, so you're not actually 100%
sure how everything is going
to turn out since you don't see the
videos as I record them? (Mateusz) Well
it's a surprise!
Trust me, Chia, it will be great
(Chia) I...
... trust you...? Yeah, OK...
So I can see that you're busy, so, I guess
we will let you get back to work and
thanks! see you later! (Mateusz) See you
(Chia) So
I guess this brings us to Step
5
which is editing the videos
and it's actually done by the guy who is
behind the camera right now
He's a little shy, Darek, so
I will try my best
to give you a general idea of what happens
during Step 5:
Editing the Videos - after have all
the materials - this includes
video footage that Darek comes in to
help us film, my written concept
for both
versions: the FULL version and the MINI version
as well as Mateusz's
plan for special effects, we
send everything to Darek
and then he puts everything together
So, he edits everything
down, he removes the
embarrassing parts where we've messed up
and he does this to create 2 episodes
of the #SocialRecap. That's the FULL
version and the MINI
version. I think
that's a general idea of what Step
5 looks like, am I right?
OK, great
Anyway, so this
actually brings us to Step
6, which is publishing the
video
and if I'm not
mistaken, this involves
our social media manager, she is just
not far, right around the
corner - yeah... (Basia) Hi
(Chia) Hey
Basia, what are you doing? (Basia) I'm
recording you for our social
media channels (Chia) OK
why don't you come in and join
us? (Basia) Sure (Chia) This is Basia
our social media manager and
she's still recording me, isn't she?
(Basia) Yes I am (Chia) So, I
was just telling them about the
#SocialRecap and I thought maybe you could tell
them what Step 6 looks like (Basia) oh
sure, okay, so
Step 6 is publishing. So
first of all, after I receive all
the recordings from Darek, I
upload them on our social media channels
and then create some
thumbnail images and write
copy, titles, description
And after everything is done, what I do
of course, I schedule the publication
(Chia) OK, awesome and
this brings us to the last step, which is
social media promotion
And this is a collaborative
process between Basia and myself
So what happens
is, a few days after we
record the #SocialRecap, Basia will
come up to me and she will say something
like (Basia) Hm, Chia, do you want to do
some Stories, or record anything
for Twitter? (Chia) Yeah, that
is pretty much exactly how she does it, every
single time. (Basia) Sorry about that
(Chia) So she'll record me saying
a few words, and this will be on
what the latest episode is about
or I might come up with some kind of
short and kind of weird video
concept that just kind of reminds
people we have a new one out, so we try to
stay flexible and try new things
and after we've done all that
Basia is again needed
for her social media skills
(Basia) Yeah, so if we record anything
I will edit our recordings
before publishing them on our social media
channels and, in the meantime, actually
I like to do some social media monitoring
and search for information
about social media news, so if I
find anybody asking about it, I
probably share a small
comment and then say, like
there's the #SocialRecap, you can check it out
(Chia) Watch the #SocialRecap (Basia) exactly
And, by the way, this reminds me
I have to check on my media monitoring projects
