How to use the new Facebook video uploader. Are you using Facebook video as
part of your content marketing? I do hope so because it gets you much more
engagement and reach, particularly if you use live video at this point in time on
Facebook. What you may not be aware of is that Facebook is making changes to the
video uploader. So I'm going to talk you through what that new interface looks like.
My name is Krishna De. You'll find me online at www.Krishna.me where I
share lots of tips and tutorials and case studies about how to integrate
digital communications and social media into your communications plans.
The first thing you want to do is go to on desktop to publishing tools. Now what I'm noticing
is I don't have this new interface on all Pages, but as I look at my Page I
want to go to publishing tools, I want to go to my video library, and then I want to edit the video.
So I'm going to edit a Facebook live video stream and I've already made the changes
but I want to talk you through what I noticed in the latest update on the video uploader.
So I'm now going to edit the video and the
first thing you'll see is that normally on the top that you actually get all of the
navigation in terms of right above the video to make the changes. But you'll see
that all of the changes now are going to made down here on the right, with one notable
exception in terms of here this is tags. So tags are underneath the video description.
So I've updated my video description because I had a live stream,
I want to put some more information in after the live event; I've got my hash
tags there at the bottom of it. But also the tagging area, that's where you're
going to be able to add them. Of course when you make any changes to your video
when you're using the video uploader, do click Save.
What I can do here is I can click on the post so that takes me to the specific post and
there's three little dots at the bottom here. One gives me the option to download the video in HD.
Now I did test this out and what I'm finding is it's still downloading in SD.
But it's great to see that perhaps that's going to be coming back because
HD video and downloading that has not been available for some months on Facebook.
I can get the embed link, so if I want to embed the video onto my
website or somewhere else I can get it from here, and I can also make the video
a featured video featured videos are on your video page and it's the video right
at the to. So that might be something you want to bring people's attention to,
just like you do in terms of on YouTube. Over on the right hand side what I can
see are all the areas where I want to edit my video. So in here you actually
see there's an area for thumbnail. I already have a custom thumbnail added,
but it allows you to scroll through in terms of the video and the content that
you already have in terms of generating one of many images from your video.
I always add a custom image as I do in terms of on my YouTube channel,
because particularly on a live stream replay, I want to highlight some specific information.
So that's what I've done, I've uploaded an image to it, but you can actually choose
something that's engaging from the video that you've already got because it's
auto-generating images there. The next area is distribution. Do you want to
allow people to be able to embed your video? So I can click that on or off. And
do I want to cross post the video? Cross posting is really helpful if you're
working with other people or you've got multiple Pages and you want to natively
publish that video without uploading it again. All the videos in terms of view counts will be identified
in the main video analytics. For example, here my Facebook live stream was
on a different Page to my main business page on Facebook, but I've actually
enabled it to be cross posted. So if I wish to,
I can now post that as a native video on Facebook. Next, subtitles are really really
important in terms of on Facebook because many people will watch video
with the audio turned off. And so the captions that you have there, if
you've not already burnt them into the video, this allows you to upload your SRT
file, or you actually can edit the captions that are automatically
generated by Facebook. Now in my case, I've already uploaded a set of captions,
but you can see I can choose my video language, I can also add
more captions in other languages. When testing this latest update on the video
uploader. One of the things I noticed is I was not able to upload my captions in
UK English and US English which obviously has slightly different
spelling, so unfortunately that isn't working for me at the moment, but I
haven't tried uploading captions in other languages. You might want to try
that and see if it works for you. So I got an error message when I did
that upload in a different language. And then you can see here I've already
uploaded the captions. I can delete those if I wish to do so, or there's actually
automatically generated captions. I tend to upload my own captions rather than taking the
time to edit the captions that are automatically generated on Facebook.
And then I can choose my default language. I've already done that.
The final area in here is tracking which allows you to track your videos by putting on an
internal ID which might be important if you're part of a large organisation and
you've got a lot of content across multiple Pages - it allows you to do that.
Or add a universal ID which is something that you might already have
from another platform in terms of where you've been uploading content, let's say
and in here it actually shows you that if you've actually got content
in another content management system and a unique code then you actually can add it there
- that does not affect your content on Facebook. So I hope this has helped
you in terms of understanding the latest updates in terms of the
Facebook video uploader. If you do have questions, please don't hesitate to give me a shout.
You can find me at www.Krishna.me or of course you can post a comment underneath
the video wherever you see it. One final thing to mention in terms of on this new
interface with the video uploader, one thing I'm seeing is missing is that
previously there would have been a button here to actually allow me to add
the opportunity for people to comment on the video via Messenger.
So I don't know if that's going to come back to us, but certainly
I'm not seeing that on the new interface. I do hope it will come back because
Messenger is such an important way of communicating and interacting with
people on Facebook these days. So I do hope you found that of an assistance in
terms of using Facebook video uploader and the new interface, and if you've got
questions make sure you leave them in the comments where you see this video.
Of course, you can find me over at www.Krishna.me
